SOLAR ECLIPSE ON GOOD FRIDAY?

 STRANGEST THINGS OF THE BIBLE

"Now from the sixth hour darkness
fell upon all the land until the ninth hour."
Matthew 27:45 NASB

Was there a SOLAR ECLIPSE on Good Friday?
Is it possible for a solar eclipse to last three hours?

Phillips New Testament translators
believes there was an eclipse.

"It was now about midday, but darkness came over the whole countryside until three in the afternoon, for there was an eclipse of the sun..."  Luke 23:44-45  Phillips

Passover begins on the evening of a FULL MOON after the Spring equinox.

Solar Eclipses only occur during a NEW MOON.

During a SOLAR ECLIPSE, the moon's shadow moves across the rotating Earth between 1,100 to 5,000 miles per hour, allowing viewers to see about 4 1/2 minutes of darkness.  The width of the moons shadow is 115 miles.  The Bible states the "darkness fell upon ALL THE LAND from noon to 3pm."

Was the darkness caused by weather?  Hollywood has made movies with Christ suffering on the cross for three hours in a dark storm of wind, fog, rain and lightning.

Was the darkness caused by forest fires.  Was Christ suffering breathing in thick smoke on the cross?  Did all the smoke disappear at 3pm?

Was the darkness caused by volcanoes?  Was there volcanic ash falling down on Jerusalem?

Did an asteroid, comet, or second moon perfectly orbit the Earth for three hours, creating a shadow over Jerusalem?

The Earth will have second moon September 29th. Asteroid 24PT5 will be temporarily caught in Earth's gravitational pull, orbiting our planet  for two months before flinging back into space.

Did the SUN go dark and reignite exactly for three hours later?

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?

"It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun's light failed..."  Luke 23:44-45  ESV

"And it was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour, because the sun was obscured..."  Luke 23:44-45  LSV

"By now it was noon, and darkness fell across the whole land for three hours, until three o’clock.  The light from the sun was gone—"   Luke 23:44-45 TLB

"It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining."  Luke 23:44-45  NIV

"Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.  Then the sun was darkened..." Luke 23:44-45 NKJV

This mystery will be resolved when we meet Jesus face to face.
