JESUS WHO WAS FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH, AND ROSE BACK TO LIFE HAS A MESSAGE OF CORRECTION FOR THE ASSEMBLY IN SMYRNA.  

SMYRNA'S NAME MEANS "MYRRH."  WISEMEN GAVE MYRRH TO THE INFANT JESUS.  AND MYRRH WAS USED AS A BURIAL SPICE FOR JESUS' BODY.

THE ASSEMBLY FACED PERSECUTION FROM THE JEWISH COMMUNITY IN SMYRNA  AND THE ROMANS.

POLYCARP, A DISCIPLE OF THE APOSTLE JOHN, WAS MARTRED AT THE AROUND 156 AD.

‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich), and the blasphemy by those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.  Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. Revelation 2:9-10 NASB

BELIEVERS FAITHFUL UNTIL DEATH WILL BE REWARDED WITH A CROWN OF LIFE.
