GRAND CANYON ~ Life's Journey 2

You've got the dream to backpack the Grand Canyon; but what is your next step? Your life may be full of dreams, but very few will become reality unless you take action. Make sure every step of the way is covered in prayer and directed by God.

Couch potatoes never hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
1. PRAYER
You will develop skills and grow more into a leader, by planning your own trip. It is important to make sure, that God is giving you His blessings; and not to run ahead of Him. Involve God! Allow Jesus to make your decisions. Pray! Allow the Spirit of God to tell you yes or no.

"Man's steps are ordained by the LORD..." Proverbs 20:24
2. RESEARCH
The more knowledge you have, the more likely your adventure will be successful. Your Grand Canyon research may include:
  • Visiting the Grand Canyon, taking pictures, talking to rangers, backcountry office and checking out trailheads.
  • NPS.org ~ online research for the Grand Canyon
  • Other Grand Canyon sites on the Internet, personal, commercial, and tourist
  • Purchase maps ~ National Geographic
  • Build a library of Grand Canyon books.
  • Watch Grand Canyon DVDs, IMAX movies & CD ROMS.
  • Talking with friends who have hiked the Grand Canyon
3. SOLO or TEAM After praying and doing your research, you'll need to decide who all is going. Are you backpacking alone? Are you inviting others.
4. DECISIONS A decision must be made, what month are your going to backpack the Grand Canyon.
5. APPLY FOR A BACKCOUNTRY PERMIT You need to go online to NPS.org, and visit the Grand Canyon National Park site. You can download a form to request campsites and dates. You can either visit the backcountry office in person, mail it in or send a fax.
6. EXERCISE You need to get your body in shape. Push yourself, and make sure you take many hikes before you leave for the canyon.
7. BACKPACKING Take your backpack out and go camping during the Summer. Find out how much you can carry and what you can eliminate. The Grand Canyon should never be your first backpacking trip.
8. PLAN MENU Buy backpack food, or stuff from your supermarket and taste test it. It would be horrible to carry a meal, that tasted disqusting.
9. GEAR Round up your backpack and gear. It is good to go shopping for items you need, months before your trip. Get a postal scale and weigh each item.
10. BOOK SHUTTLE, & MOTEL Once you have your permit in hand, it is time to book your transcanyon shuttle, and motel rooms for before & after.
11. PREPARE YOUR VEHICLE You would hate to have your car break down on the way to the canyon. Make sure you have good brakes, tires, belts, new fluids, hoses, and an oil change.

Grand Canyon ~ Life's Journey

What does it take to plan a Grand Canyon, Rim to Rim backpacking adventure? And what are life's lessons we can learn? In this series we will take you from dream to reality.
DARE TO DREAM
Perhaps you were visiting the North Rim, and you walked out to an overlook point. Your breath was taken away. Visitors from other countries were shooting pictures. A raven sours to a pinion tree below. On the horizon, you see the South Rim in the distance. Feeling a cool breeze, you hear others talking about hiking down the canyon. Curiosity merges, "What is it like down there?" A desire, rushes into your head and motivates a wild dream. "I would like to hike the Grand Canyon, from the North Rim to the South Rim."
APPLICATION
During your LIFE's JOURNEY, have you ever had a dream of what you would like to do? A dream of where to live, what occupation to pursue, or what ministry God is leading you into. How do you pursue this dream? How can you journey to make it reality? Or how can you plan your Rim to Rim backpacking trip?
"...And your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;"            Acts 2:17 NAS

MOSES

PRIDE BUSTERS

"Now the man Moses was very humble,
more than all men who were on
the face of the earth." Numbers 12:3 NKJV

God used a humble man, Moses to lead the nation of Isreal out of the bondage of Egypt..

"Then He said, "Hear now My words:
If there is a prophet among you, I the LORD, make Myself known to him in a vision, And I speak to him in a dream. Not so with My servant Moses; He is faithful in all My house. I speak with him face to face, Even plainly, and not in dark sayings, And he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant Moses?"
Numbers 12:4-8 NKJV

God speaks to His prophets by dreams and visions. But the LORD spoke directly to His servant Moses.

"No one has seen God at any time..." I John 4:12 NKJV

"Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus," Hebrews 3:1 NKJV

Jesus is our Apostle and High Priest.

"...who was faithful to Him who appoint Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God. And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end." Hebrews 3:2-6 NKJV

God used Moses mightily, because he was the most humble man on earth. Are you humble?
Or are you full of pride?

DAVID AND GOLIATH

PRIDE BUSTERS

God chose a humble person, David, to defeat the proud Goliath.

"Now the LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesses the Bethlehemite, for I have selected a king for Myself among his sons."

I Samuel 16:1 NASB

The Lord sent Samuel the prophet to anoint and select a king.

"So Samuel did what the LORD said, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the city came trembling to meet him and said, "Do you come in peace?"
He said, "In peace; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice."
He also consecrated Jesses and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice."

I Samuel 16:4-5 NASB

Samuel spoke to Jesses' sons.

"Then it came about when they entered, that he looked at Eliab and thought, "Surely the LORD's anointed is before Him."

But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

Then Jesses called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, "Neither has the LORD chose this one."

Then Jesses made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, "The LORD has not chosen these." And Samuel said to Jesses, "Are these all the children?" And he said, "There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is tending the sheep."
Then Samuel said to Jesses, "Send and bring him; for we will not sit down until he comes here." So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, "Arise, anoint him; for this is he."
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of is brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward.
And Samuel arose and went to Ramah."

I Samuel 16: 6-13 NASB

"Now the Philistines gathered their armies for battle;..."   I Samuel 17:1 NASB

"The Philistines stood on the mountain on one side while Israel stood on the mountain on the other side, with the valley between them.
Then a champion came out from the armies of the Philistines named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span."

I Samuel 17:3-4 NASB

"He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel and said to them, "Why do you come out to draw up in battle array? Am I not the Philistine and you servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will become your servants; but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall become our servants and serve us." Again the Philistine said, "I defy the ranks of Israel this day; give me a man that we may fight together."
I Samuel 17:8-10 NASB

Jesses had David deliver some food and supplies to his brothers on the battlefield and heard Goliath's speech.

"When all the men of Israel saw the man, they fled from him and were greatly afraid. The men of Israel said, "Have you seen this man who is coming up? Surely he is coming up to defy Israel. And it will be that the king will enrich the man who kills him with great riches and will give him his daughter and make his father's house free in Israel."
I Samuel 17:24-25 NASB

"Then David spoke to the men who were standing by him, saying, "What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should taunt the armies of the living God?"
I Samuel 17:26 NASB

David went to battle with no armor and the only weapon he had was a sling and five stones.

"Then the Philistine came on and approached David, with the shield-bearer in front of him. When the Philistine looked and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, with a handsome appearance.
The Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?" And the Philistine also said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the beasts of the field."
Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted. This day the LORD will deliver you up into my hands, and I will strike you down and remove your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the LORD does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the LORD's and He will give you into our hands."

I Samuel 17:43-47 NAS

"And David put his hand into his bag and took from it a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine on his forehead. And the stone sank into his forehead, so that he fell on his face to the ground."
I Samuel 17:49 NASB

"Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his had with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled."
I Samuel 17:50-15 NASB

Goliath was a classic example of arrogance, intimidating the people of Israel

To defeat this spirit of pride, God anointed a humble shepherd boy.

WHICH ONE ARE YOU?  Do you stand in pride like Goliath, bad mouthing God's people?
Or are you humble like David, defending his people?

NEBUCHADNEZZAR'S PRIDE

PRIDE BUSTERS

God gave Nebuchadnezzar,
the king of Babylon a fearful dream.

"I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at ease in my house and flourishing in my palace. I saw a dream and it made me fearful; and these fantasies as I lay on my bed and the visions in my mind kept alarming me.
Then the magicians, the conjurers, the Chaldeans and the diviners came in and I related the dream to them, but they could not make its interpretation known to me. But finally Daniel came in before me..."

Daniel 4:4-8 NASB

Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream.

"this is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king; that you be driven away from mankind and your dwelling place be with the beasts of the field, and you be given grass to eat like cattle and be drenched with the dew of heaven; and seven periods of time will pass over you, until you recognize that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind and bestows it on whom, ever He wishes. And in that it was commanded to leave the stump with the roots of the tree, your kingdom will be assured to you after you recognize that it is Heaven that rules. Therefore, O king, may my advice be pleasing to you: break away now from your sins by doing righteousness and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a prolonging of your prosperity."

Daniel 4:24-27 NASB

If you exalt yourself, you will be abased, and if you humble yourself, you shall be exalted.

"Twelve months later he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon.

The king reflected and said,
'Is this not Babylon the great, which I myself have built as a royal residence by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?'

"While the word was in the king's mouth, a voice came from heaven, saying, 'King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is declared: sovereignty has been removed from you, and you will be driven away from mankind, and your dwelling place will be with the beasts of the field. You will be given grass to eat like cattle, and seven periods of time will pass over you until you recognize that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind and bestows it on whomever He wishes.'"

Daniel 4:29-32 NASB

Driven out from hanging gardens of the palace to the cattle pasture, the mighty king spent 7 years discovering GOD, the true ruler of the heavens and earth.

"But at the end of that period, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever;

'For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom endures from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, but He does according to His will in the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of earth; and no one can ward off His hand or say to Him, What have You done?'

"At that time my reason returned to me. And my majesty and splendor were restored to me for the glory of my kingdom, and my counselors and my nobles began seeking me out ; so I was reestablished in my sovereignty, and surpassing greatness was added to me."

Daniel 4:34-36 NASB

Nebuchadnezzar looked up to heaven and praised the Most High God.

"Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just, and He is able to humble those who walk in pride."

Daniel 4:37 NASB

Leaders who walk in PRIDE will be brought down by God.  Those who are HUMBLE will be lifted up.  Are you a leader?

BONDSERVANTS OF THE BIBLE

PRIDE BUSTERS

IS JESUS YOUR LORD?

Jesus said, "You are my friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made know to you."
John 15:15 NKJV

Jesus called the disciples who obeyed him, "friends."  What did the disciples call themselves?

"Simon Peter, a bond-servant..."
II Peter 1:1 NASB

"James, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ..." James 1:1 NASB

"Jude, a bond-servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James..." Jude 1:1 NASB

"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must soon take place; and He sent and communicated it by His angel to His bond-servant John."  Revelation 1:1 NASB

"Paul, a bond-servant of Christ...
Romans 1:1 NASB

"Paul and Timothy bond-servants of Christ Jesus..." Philippians 1:1 NASB

Even after Jesus ascended into heaven, His disciples called themselves "bond-servants." "Doulos" is the Greek word.

In Bible times, on the 7th year, & the Year of Jubilee, slaves were set free. They had the freedom to go their own way; or become a 'doulos'--becoming a lifetime servant under a master. The servant's ear was pierced at the doorpost, signifying his was a bond-servant for life.

People making Jesus Lord of their lives, surrender all and become obedient to him, like a servant to a master. Jesus is the loving Lord, who treats his servants like friends.

Apostle Paul said, "For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ."
Galatian 1:10 NASB

Is Jesus Lord of your life?
If so, he calls you "Friend."
What do you call yourself?

MARY THE MAID SERVANT

PRIDE BUSTERS

Why is Mary highly favored among women?

"Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary.
And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the LORD is with you; blessed are you among women!"
Luke 1:26-28 NKJV

"But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord."

"God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end."
 Luke 1:29-33 NKJV

MARY HAS BEEN CHOSEN

"Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?"
And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God."
"Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible."
Luke 1:34-37 NKJV

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD

"Then Mary said, "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

"And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said,
"Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
"But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord."

"And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arms; he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever."
Luke 1:38-55 NKJV

Mary regarded herself as a lowly maidservant before God.  God scatters the proud and exalts the lowly.
WHY DOES GOD CHOOSE THE HUMBLE?

ARE YOU BIG HEADED?

PRIDE BUSTERS

WHERE WOULD YOU SIT?

"And He began speaking a parable to the invited guests when He noticed how they had been picking out the places of honor at the table, saying to them,

"When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished than you may have been invited by him, and he who invited you both will come and say to you, 'Give your place to this man,' and then in disgrace you proceed to occupy the last place.
Luke 14:7-9 NAS

Big headed people like to sit at the place of honor.  While humble persons like to be the table servants.

But when you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, 'Friend, move up higher; then you will have honor in the sight of all who are at the table with you." Luke 14:10 NASB

"For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Luke 14:11 NASB

"The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; PRIDE and arrogance and the evil way ..."
Proverbs 8:13 NKJV

JUDAS SAT IN THE PLACE OF HONOR BESIDE JESUS AT THE LAST SUPPER.
PETER SAT IN THE SERVANTS PLACE, AT THE OTHER END OF THE TABLE.

IF YOU COULD SIT ANY WHERE AT THE TABLE, WHERE WOULD YOU SEAT YOURSELF?

FAMILY PRIDE

PRIDE BUSTERS

"As Jesus was about to go up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside by themselves, and on the way He said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death, and will hand Him over to the Gentiles to mock and scourge and crucify Him, and on the third day He will be raised up." Matthew 20:17-19 NASB

The mother of James and John, bows down before Jesus and asks for a favor.

"Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to Jesus with her sons, bowing down and making a request of Him.
And He said to her, "What do you wish?"

She said to Him, "Command that in Your kingdom these two sons of mine may sit one on Your right and one on Your left."

But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?"
They said to Him, "We are able."

Matthew 20:20-22 NASB

Jesus is referring to the cup of suffering. James was the first disciple to be martyred.

"Now about that time Herod the king laid hands on some who belonged to the church in order to mistreat them. And he had James the brother of John put to death with a sword."

Acts 12:1-2 NASB

It was Family Pride, for mama Zebedee to request her two boys to be put in the highest place of honor in God's kingdom.

"He said to them, "My cup you shall drink; but to sit on My right and on My left, this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father."

And hearing this, the ten became indignant with the two brothers.
But Jesus called them to Himself and said,
"You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord  over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.
It is not this way among you,

but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." Matthew 20:23-28 NASB

Do you Lord over people?
Or do you enjoy serving others?

WHAT DOES GOD THINK ABOUT PRIDE?

PRIDE BUSTERS

WHAT DOES GOD THINK ABOUT PRIDE?
WHAT DOES GOD THINK ABOUT THE HUMBLE?

"Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud." Proverbs 16:18-19 NKJV

"Surely He scorns the scornful, but gives grace to the humble."  Proverbs 3:34 NKJV

"He who loves transgression loves strife, and he who exalts his gate seeks destruction." Proverbs 17:19 NKJV

"Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honor is humility."
Proverbs 18:12 NKJV

"A haughty look, a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked are sin."  Proverbs 21:4 NKJV

"...God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." James 4:6 NKJV

"Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up." James 4:10 NKJV

"If my people who are called by My name will HUMBLE themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."  II Chronicles 7:14 NKJV

"For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged."  I Corinthians 11:31 NKJV

Is it time to give up all PRIDE in your life; and become HUMBLE before Christ?

WHO IS THE GREATEST IN THE KINGDOM?

PRIDE BUSTERS

BECOME LIKE CHILDREN

"At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"

And He (Jesus) called a child to Himself and set him before them, and said,
"Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:1-4 NASB

Jesus made it clear, unless you are converted (turn from sin) and humble yourself as a little child; you will not enter His kingdom.

And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea."
Matthew 18:5-6 NASB

Do you have faith like a child, and believe in Jesus?
Unless you are converted and humble yourself you will not ever enter the kingdom of heaven.

JESUS TAUGHT US TO BE HUMBLE

PRIDE BUSTERS

JESUS IS HUMBLE

"Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded himself.

After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. Then he came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, 'Lord, are You washing my feet?"

John 13:2-6 NKJV

It was a custom that the servant would wash the feet of the master and guests when they enter a house.
Jesus humbled himself as a servant, taking His own towel to wash all the disciple's feet.

Jesus answered and said to him, 'What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this."

Peter said to Him, 'You shall never wash my feet!'

Jesus answered him, 'If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.'

Simon Peter said to Him, 'Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!'

Jesus said to him, 'He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.' For he knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, 'You are not all clean.'

So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, 'Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet."
John 7:14 NKJV

"For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, happy are you if you do them."
John 15:15 NKJV

WHICH ARE YOU?
Someone who loves to serve others?
Or someone who enjoys to be served?

SATAN & THE GARDEN OF EDEN

PRIDE BUSTERS

"Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it. The LORD God commanded the man, saying,

Listen Adam and Eve, there is a garden full of delicious fruit trees to eat from.  But you're going to die if you eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

"From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die."
Genesis 2:15-17 NASB

"Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman,
"Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden?"

The woman said to the serpent,
"from the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.'"

The serpent said to the woman, "You surely shall not die!  For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings."

Genesis 3:1-7 NASB

Lucifer fell because of the sin of pride, wanting to be like God.  This is how he enticed Eve, by promising everlasting life and evil knowledge; if you disobey God, eating the forbidden fruit.

"They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden." Genesis 3:8 NASB

It is sinful nature trying to cover up your sin; and hide from God.

"Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?"

Genesis 3:9 NASB

God is omnipresent and omniscient; present everwhere and knowing everything.  So, why did Adam and Eve think they can hide from God?

He said, (Adam) 'I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid myself."
And He said, 'Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?"
Genesis 3:11 NASB

You better tell the truth!

"The man said, 'The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate." Genesis 3:12 NASB

Instead of admitting his sin to God, Adam blames Eve.  And Eve blamed the Serpent.
Pride blames others; and refuses to examines their own sins. The serpent deceived Eve into believing, she could be like God.

Then the LORD God said to the woman, 'What is this you have done?' And the woman said, The serpent deceived me, and I ate."
Genesis 3:13 NASB

God's Judgment on the serpent, Satan

"The LORD God said to the serpent,
'Because you have done this, cursed are you more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life; and I will put enmity between you the the woman, and between your seed and her seed;
(JESUS) He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel."

Genesis 3:14-15 NASB

God's Judgment on Eve her offspring

To the woman He said, 'I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth, In pain you shall bring forth children; yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you."
Genesis 3:16 NASB

God's Judgment on Adam and his offspring

Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat from it'; Cursed is the ground because of you; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life, both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field; By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, because from it you were taken; For you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

Genesis 3:17-19 NASB

Sin and death entered the world because of Adam & Eve's disobedience. It is because of Satan's lie of pride that they were enticed to eat the forbidden fruit.

"So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life." Genesis 3:24 NASB

If Satan told you that you can become like God, would you believe his lie?
Adam and Eve were the first humans to commit sinful Pride and disobedience.
All mankind has been paying for Adam's sin, ever since the fall in the garden.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life...
